Certified as a Living National Treasure in 1977. Born in 1902 in front of Shimomonzen, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kyoto City. At the age of 15, he completed the potter's wheel course at the Kyoto Municipal Ceramics Research Institute. He is an assistant to Kenkichi Tomimoto.
In 1965 he became president of Kyoto City University of Arts. He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon. He is a Person of Cultural Merit in Kyoto City and a Person of Cultural Merit in Kyoto Prefecture. In 1977 he was certified as an important intangible cultural property holder of the dyeing technique. He passed away on February 25, 1985.
