(Internal #W-KIM-1) This is a beautiful v intage KAKESHITA JAPANESE WEDDING KIMONO. Rare HUGE Wedding Kimono, red silk with crane and flowers in gold embroidered design. One of a kind, hand crafted; museum quality ceremonial piece in pure silk with intricate detailed hand-embroidery throughout.

To emphasize the actual size, photos of Glenn on ladder holding it. It is supposed to trail along the floor, which is why it is heavily padded along the hem. No label, brand or date.

Measures 73 long including neck x 50 wide. Sleeves 12 wide x 40 long. Bottom 7 is padded/weighted on the bottom with soft red fabric surrounding the padding. White ribbon for inner tying.

Straight pole with hanger loop is 51 long, included. Estimated date of manufacture: 1970s (20th century). Weight: 5 pounds 6 ounces. Neck to sleeve cuff hem 22-1/4. Underarm to hem is 65-1/2. The final wedding kimono is called the Kakeshita, in the style of Japonisme.

This kimono is worn in place of the shirokakeshita and instead of it being white, its very colorful, again with a padded hem and the furisode sleeves. The patterning would be quite elaborate, asymmetrical, and include auspicious marriage symbols such as pine (for endurance and longevity) or cranes (which mate for life). Like the uchikake, the kakeshita has a bright orange-red padding at the hem but this padding is much lighter an inch of padding as compared to 2-3 of padding on the uchikake. The patterning of the kakeshita is also typically sparse around the mid-section, as this would be covered with a formal obi belt.

The kakeshita fabric is similar to a furisode kimono, and the sleeves are usually just as long. Though its not as popular to wear as the Shirokakeshita brides can opt to change into this if they wish.
