Usually Tansu does not have legs but previous owner made removable legs. More convenient for western interior. This is a small clothing chest "Isho tansu" used to keep kimono and handled with care. In the past, a new bride would generally bring a tansu with her as a part of a dowry. Since it was one of the principal features of the drowry, the tansu was often made in a extravagant fashion. In certain areas of Japan, it was a customary to exhibit the daughter's dowry to all relatives and neighbors when she moved to her new home, another reason for choosing particularly magnificient tansu.
